General and financial crime 2011/2012: R v Neil Greatrex (concluded April 2012) - defending former President of the Union of Democratic Mineworkers in large scale systematic fraud on miners charity. [Instructed by Brian Spiro, BCL Burton Copeland]; R v Anthony Ash (concluded December 2012) - defending Managing Director of Swiss based, UK company on charges of bribery in relation to award of multimillion pound contracts with Network Rail. [Instructed by Anthony Burton, Simons Muirhead and Burton]; R v Art Scheffer (scheduled for trial September 2012) - defending in multi-million pound corruption case arising from UN pharmaceutical programmes in the Democratic Republic of Congo. [Instructed by Aileen Colhoun, Hickman and Rose]; R v Leigh Greest and others (ongoing) - defending former banker in $15 million conspiracy to launder proceeds of theft from Commerzbank, Frankfurt. [Instructed by Edward Smyth, Sonn, McMillan, Walker]. Recent past cases: R v Ruby Thomas - manslaughter case arising from homophobic attack in Trafalgar Square [Instructed by Ross Dixon, Hickman and Rose]; R v Edward Erin - appeal on behalf of consultant, convicted of poisoning his mistress.[instructed by Anthony Burton, Simons Muirhead and Burton]; State v Karamath, and Ben-Dak - prosecuting conspiracy to defraud the State of Trinidad and Tobago by dishonestly arranging for a water supply contract to be awarded to a joint venture between various fraudulent companies and the State Water and Sewage Authority. [Instructed by the DPP, Trinidad and Tobago]; State v Franklin Khan - prosecuting former government minister on charges of bribery and corruption. [Instructed by the DPP, Trinidad and Tobago]. Current pre-trial advice work: Re: X. He is currently advising the directors of an international clothing manufacturer in a pre-charge bribery and corruption investigation. (Name of solicitor provided on request); Re: Y. Currently advising a sample group of insurance brokers on compliance under the Bribery Act 2010. (Name of solicitor provided on request). Recent regulatory work 2010/11: GMC v Tan - defending plastic surgeon on charges of professional misconduct; GMC v W - advising colorectal surgeon on judicial review from GMC findings. GDC v Gagoh - representing dental surgeon on charges of professional misconduct. Previous cases of note: R v Fisher (Jubilee Line fraud); R v Shaun Lynch (conspiracy to defraud Betfair); R v Graham Coutts - murder retrial after a successful appeal to the House of Lords. Medical issue: breath control/ accidental strangulation); R v Siôn Jenkins - charged with murder of foster daughter Billie Jo. Retrials involved multi-disciplinary and complex scientific and medical evidence. Acquitted after two re-trials. Appellate work includes: R v Powell, R v English (House of Lords) - redefining the doctrine of joint enterprise in murder; The State v Charles and others, Privy Council - joint enterprise in murder; R v Williams Yemoh and others - appeal on secondary party liability in murder/manslaughter; R v Cornwall - appeal on bias following service of journalist on jury in murder trial.
