Position

Specialises in all personal injury and occupational disease, including accidents, asbestos, brain injuries, workplace stress/harassment, COSHH, upper limb disorders, deafness, road traffic, insurance, and all related regulatory work. For example, Dau Chi Chong v Funafloat QBD 26.4.12, [2012] EWCA Civ 212, liability of canal boat hirer to user injured by bridge; Johnson v Ministry of Defence [2012] EWCA Civ 1505 limitation period in deafness claims; Fairchild v Glenhaven [2002] 1 WLR 1052 (CA,HL), considering causation in mesothelioma claims where asbestos exposure from several employers; Spencer v Boots (2002, CA) injury through repetitive work; Collins v Gordon (2008, CA), case management of brain injury case; Warner v Huntingdonshire DC (2002, CA) binmen’s repetitive lifting injury; Roy v Europ Assistance (1995, CA) duties of insurer in relation to travel insurance and repatriation; Afzal and others v Ford Motor Company [1994] 4 All ER 720 (CA), 21 cases on costs of small claims.

Career

Called 1988; Lincoln’s Inn; editor of ‘Current Law’. Recent seminars: PIBA Winter Conference 2011 – Liability; Road Traffic (2009); Highways (2009); Counter Schedules and Ogden 6 (2007); Workplace stress, bullying and harassment (2006); Current trends in Asbestos litigation. PIBA 2011 Winter Conference lecture on employers’ liability. Has given evidence as expert in English law to US Courts on affidavit and attended court in Irish Republic to give expert evidence on law of contribution. Member of Zurich Catastrophic Injury Panel amongst others. Author, ‘How to Get Away With Absolutely Anything’ (Hodder & Stoughton).
