Position

Principal areas of practice are: insurance and reinsurance; professional liability; commercial and consumer law; administrative law (including inquiries). Insurance work ranges from substantial coverage disputes to litigation and arbitration between insurers, reinsurers, brokers and coverholders. Experienced with most classes of risk and in non-contentious drafting work. Professional liability practice covers mainly solicitors, barristers, financial professionals, insurance brokers and surveyors / valuers. Public law practice includes judicial review and advisory work covering local government, professional discipline and commercial regulation. Special expertise in the law relating to inquiries and inquests, and experienced as counsel to the inquiry (Hillsborough Stadium Disaster; the Princess of Wales; de Menezes; Potters Bar and Grayrigg rail disasters; explosion on HMS Tireless). Important recent cases include: AXA Corporate Solutions v Weir Services Australia Lloyd’s Rep IR 578 (and, in the Sydney Commercial Court, [2017] NSWCA 259); PM Law v Motorplus [2016] EWHC 193 (QB) and [2017] EWHC 1352 (Comm); McBride v UK Insurance [2017] Lloyd’s Rep IR Plus 28; Denning v Greenhalgh Financial Services Ltd [2017] PNLR 19;; R (Ferreira) v Senior Coroner for Inner South London [2017] EWCA Civ 31; Coles v Hetherton (RSA motor insurance lead cases) [2015] 1 WLR 160.
