Position

Criminal law, general civil litigation, employment law. Criminal experience includes criminal prosecution work (Grade 4 prosecutor) and defence work in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal. Specialises in serious violence, drugs, dishonesty and sexual offences. Significant experience of contractual disputes, personal injury, employment issues including unfair dismissal, race discrimination, victimisation, landlord and tenant (both private and commercial). Notable cases: R v Babir Aziz (leading junior in attempted murder trial involving gangland shooting); R v Ian Bass (murder 15-year old – joint enterprise – issue of intent); R v Alan Wilby (led junior in £1m drug conspiracy to supply across the north of England); R v James Maloney (prime target in £800,000 conspiracy to burgle/handle prestige cars from Hanoi burglaries); R v Gary Williams 14/03/01 Court of Appeal (whether inadequate summing up was defective by virtue of the European Convention on Human Rights (trial in accordance with law); applicability of powers of court of appeal to rectify omissions in summing up retrospectively as per Stirland v DPP [1994] AC 315).
