Position
Oliver Jones practises in all areas of chambers’ work, with a particular emphasis on commercial litigation and arbitration, administrative law and public international law. Oliver appears regularly in the High Court and county courts around the country. Recent cases include: SerVaas Incorporated v Rafidain Bank & Republic of Iraq & ors [2010] EWHC 3287 (Ch); [2010] All ER (D) 201 (with Mark Howard QC) – acting on behalf of the Republic of Iraq to resist an attempt to enforce a French judgment against Iraqi assets in London; Luton Borough Council & ors v Secretary of State for Education [2011] EWHC 217 (Admin) (with Jemima Stratford QC) – successfully quashing the decision of the Secretary of State to cancel the Building Schools for the Future programme in relation to schools in Waltham Forest; Templeton Insurance Ltd v Motorcare Warranties Ltd & ors [2010] EWHC 3113 (Comm) (with Peter Irvin) – commercial court trial involving issues of insurance fraud; acting for a significant telecommunications company to resist an injunction under s44 of the Arbitration Act 1996 to prevent a major transaction (with Mark Howard QC).
Career
Qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of New South Wales, Australia, 2007; solicitor with Mallesons Stephen Jaques, Sydney, 2007. Called to the Bar (Lincoln’s Inn), 2009. Visiting fellow of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law (with a focus on public and private international law); formerly a visiting lecturer (contract law) on the GDL Programme at BPP Law School, London.
