Tessa regularly practices in the Crown Court, Magistrates’ Court and Youth Court. Although she prominently defends she is authorised as a grade one CPS advocate. She has experience of dealing with general crime matters including dishonesty offences, violence, sexual offences, drugs and firearms matters. She also dealt with numerous cases arising out of the 2011 riots both in the Youth Court and Magistrates’ Court, having successfully applied for bail and represented clients who were eventually sentenced to non-custodial sentences. Tessa has represented defendants who work in the care industry, are employed by the Royal Air Force, or run their own businesses, and has advised solicitors acting for a practicing dentist. She developed experience preparing advices for other members of chambers as a pupil, and now regularly advises solicitors and clients on various areas of law. Vulnerable defendants: she has developed a specialism for representing youths in general, but also persons of all ages suffering with learning difficulties or mental health problems. She has appeared in two matters were the defendant has been assisted by an intermediary, and cases where hospital orders or mental health treatment requirements have been ordered or considered by the court. Other areas: Tessa appeared in a criminal matter where she successfully applied to the Family Court for disclosure of related Family Court Proceedings. She has experience of licensing matters and extradition, and as a pupil advised solicitors acting for a police federation representative on the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
