Position

One of the leading children law barristers in the country, Piers took Silk in 2010, becoming, at the age of 41, one of the youngest family Silks ever appointed. He practises exclusively in private and public children law, undertaking complex and substantial cases at first instance and on appeal. He has appeared in numerous reported cases, including recently: Re C and D (children) [2011] Fam Law 100 (representing father exonerated of causing multiple injuries to twins); BBC v Coventry City Council [2010] Fam Law 1280 (media and publicity); Re B (children: expert evidence) [2010] All ER (D) 212 (role of official solicitor); Re J (care proceedings: injuires) [2009] 2 FLR 99 (representing father exonerated of non-accidentally injuring baby); Re B (medical treatment) [2009] 1 FLR 1264 (declaration authorising non-resuscitation of child; Re J (application for a shadow expert) [2008] 1 FLR 1501 (expert evidence); Re F and H (children: relocation) [2008] 2 FLR 1667 (major Court of Appeal relocation decision); and M v Warwickshire CC [2008] 1 FLR 1093 and Re P (adoption: leave provisions) [2007] 2 FLR 1069 (both Court of Appeal decisions on the interpretation of the Adoption and Children Act 2002).

Publications: co-author of ‘Contact: The New Deal’ (Pressdee, Vater, Judd QC, Baker QC – Family Law, 2006) and of ‘The Public Law Outline: The Court Companion’ (Pressdee, Vater, Judd QC, Baker QC – Family Law, 2008). Currently updating the children law volumes of ‘Halsbury’s Laws of England’. Silk 2010.
