Position

Vanessa Lawrence has been a partner in the trade mark team since 1997, and has worked in the field of trade marks since 1989.

Vanessa handles a wide range of UK and international trade mark cases and works across various commercial sectors including fashion, food and beverage, travel and telecommunications from small entrepreneurial start-ups to global businesses, as well as off-shore businesses. Vanessa manages a wide range of global trade mark portfolios as well as handling UK, community and international trade mark filing and prosecution cases for smaller clients. Vanessa has extensive experience in filing community design registrations for cutting edge fashion designs, as well as being involved in anti-counterfeiting measures, recording IP rights with customs authorities around the world, and prosecuting domain name complaints targeted at cyber-squatters.

Vanessa works across various commercial sectors, and her clients include fashion retailers, telecom companies, breweries, food manufacturers, hedge funds, business consultancies, travel operators and internet companies.

Vanessa is a member of the firm's finance management group and is involved in the implementation of the financial strategy and plans for the firm. She is also a member of the people management group and is actively involved in the firm's strategy and plans for retention, recruitment and training.

Career

Trained and qualified as a registered trade mark attorney 1991; joined A.A. Thornton & Co 1994; partner 1997.

Member

Chartered Institute of Trade Mark Attorneys (CITMA); International Trademarks Association (INTA); Pharmaceutical Trade Marks Group (PTMG); European Communities Trade Mark Association (ECTA).

Education

Nottingham University (BSc Hons Biochemistry with genetics); London University (MSc Intellectual Property – Law and Science).

Leisure

Learnt to scuba dive in 2011 and is happy that to date the number of ascents has equalled the number of descents. Growing chillies. Cider production (small scale). Apiarist in the making.
