Types of work undertaken: We provide a comprehensive range of services relating to IP matters, undertaking both contentious and non-contentious work relating to all areas of IP.

The firm's practice is divided into five departments, with three patent departments split by technologies (engineering, physics and mechanical devices; electrical, electronics, telecoms and IT; and chemistry, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals), an IP litigation and legal department, and a trade mark department that also advises on designs, copyright and domain names.

Patents: the patents team's expertise lies in the field of technology, with many of its attorneys having post-graduate science degrees. The practice includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a range of technological inventions in all industry sectors on a worldwide basis. The firm manages global patent families for a number of multinational organisations and represent clients at oral proceedings before the examining division of the European Patent Office (EPO). The firm also provides strategic advice in respect of patent infringement and validity, handling patent opposition matters, and undertaking due diligence assessments of third party IP for licensing and acquisition purposes.

Trade marks: the practice manages more than 20,000 trade mark registrations spread over 190 different jurisdictions. Handling a wide range of UK and international trade mark cases, the team advises on the protection, enforcement and commercialisation of trade marks, dispute avoidance and dispute resolution. It works across various commercial sectors, with a focus on fashion, luxury goods, food and beverage, travel, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, healthcare products, energy and finance.

IP litigation and legal: the team represents clients in relation to all aspects of IP litigation and commercial IP. Its contentious experience ranges from dealing with small IP disputes resolved in negotiation, to hard-fought high-value IP litigation and coordinating parallel actions in other jurisdictions. The firm's litigation approach is, where appropriate, for its IP solicitors to work closely with its patent or trade mark attorneys to provide a co-ordinated approach to both enforcement and protection ensuring the best possible resolution of IP disputes.
