Dr Lawrence King has over 16 years’ experience in the IP profession. Lawrence’s current practice covers both contentious and non-contentious matters in the fields of chemistry, chemical engineering, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. His existing client base consists predominantly of medium and large size corporate companies, many of whom he works with directly.

Having worked in-house within the IP department of GlaxoSmithKline for eight years, Lawrence is particularly valued by clients for his understanding of the role of in-house counsel, their needs, and the commercial application of their IP. Lawrence’s existing practice includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications for a broad range of technologies on a worldwide basis. Lawrence also has considerable experience providing strategic advice in respect of patent infringement and validity, handling patent opposition matters, and undertaking due diligence assessments of third party IP for licensing and acquisition purposes.

Lawrence is a member of the firm’s HR group and is actively involved in the firm's strategy and plans for retention, recruitment and training.  Lawrence became a partner of the firm in 2013.

A.A. Thornton & Co. divides its patent team into three core areas. Adrian Bennett leads the engineering, physics and mechanical devices patent team. Dr Craig Turner  leads the firm's chemistry, biotech and pharmaceuticals patents team, working alongside partners including  Lawrence King . Turner's work has included defending a patent opposition before the EPO for LycoRed brought by one of its competitors, which related to a food colouring formula. The third core group focuses on electrical engineering, electronics, telecoms and IT patents and is led by Mike Jennings. The firm's other clients include the likes of Cipla, Robert Bosch and IBM.
