Position

Patrick is the Head of Intellectual Property in the UK for the firm, having joined in May 2014 from Walker Morris where he had been the founding partner of the IP department, Patrick works out of the London and Leeds offices on a range of contentious and non-contentious intellectual property cases. He has over 30 years in the field of IP and is acknowledged as an expert by various independent commentators both in the UK and overseas. He has had conduct of substantial high profile technology transfer deals as well as a string of victories before the courts including but not limited to the Court of Appeal decision in Hotel Cipriani v Cipriani (Grosvenor Street).  He has also acted as an advocate before the UK IPO on a patent entitlement disputes and has also been instrumental in setting up various IP strategies and anti-infringement worldwide campaigns for leading companies.

Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP  merged with U.S firm Womble Carlyle in October 2017 to form Womble Bond Dickinson; the practice is known for its work in the advertising space and advising brand-owners on marketing and IP matters. Practice head Patrick Cantrill is recommended for all soft IP matters and litigation and Nicky Strong  has notable experienced in non-contentious regulatory and advertising compliance work. Highlights include assisting Colgate-Palmolive to defend ASA complaints relating to the Max White Expert range, Tempur-Sealey International on pan-EU marketing materials and advertisements and for advertising regulatory work for Specsavers on several advertising campaigns and the launch of new JCB safety eyewear range.
