Private wealth: private capital.

Position

Head of the private capital team within the firm’s private wealth department. Advises on tax efficient wills and trusts, pre-death and post-death tax-planning strategies, including advising on death benefits under pension and life policies. Acts as a trustee for many family trusts and advises on trusteeships and trust management. Mainly acts for high-net-worth individuals and has a particular interest in cross border issues, issues affecting people suffering from physical or mental incapacity and in relation to end of life decision making. Helen is also a notary public.

Career

Joined Wilkinson Marshall Clayton & Gibson as assistant solicitor in 1984 and became partner in 1988; merged with Eversheds and became head of private client department in Newcastle; joined Dickinson Dees in September 2000; partner, Bond Dickinson on merger 2013; partner, Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP on combination in 2017.

Womble Bond Dickinson (UK) LLP’s team acts for families and high-net-worth individuals on a wide range of succession and estate planning matters, including capital gains and inheritance tax issues, the establishment and reorganisation of private and charitable trusts, investment restructuring and trading structures as well as the administration of high-value probates, inheritance tax relief claims and trustee work. Helen Tavroges, who jointly heads the team with David Dale, is frequently called upon by high-net-worth individuals and has particular expertise in matters affecting the elderly. George Lyall and legal director Deborah Jude are other key members of the team, as is managing associate Emily Pike.
