Position

Paula Corban - Pelin, Counsel, heads the energy practice in Romania. She is a leading corporate and energy expert, with more than 15 years of experience in corporate M&A, power and electricity, oil and gas. Paula has proved to be an excellent lawyer with tremendous expertise in the M&A and energy fields, being able to handle complex domestic and cross-border transactions. She coordinated complex international M&A projects in energy, agribusiness and food or financial services working for sophisticated M&A clients. She was engaged in pioneering projects concerning the energy sector, with emphasis on the nuclear field, renewable energy (including project finance), cogeneration and oil & gas.

  • Sentencing guidelines for corporate manslaughter

    In February 2010 the Sentencing Guidelines Council (the SGC) issued definitive guidelines to courts on imposing appropriate sentences for corporate manslaughter and health and safety offences causing death. The SGC states that fines imposed on companies found guilty of corporate manslaughter should not fall below £500,000, while fines in respect of health and safety offences that are a significant cause of death should be at least £100,000. Crucially, the SGC declined to provide for a fixed link between the imposed fine and the turnover or profitability of the offending company.
