Position

David is a Senior Associate at DLA Piper and has extensive experience in a wide variety of commercial contracts.  David's experience includes complex supply, distribution and manufacturing agreements, IT outsourcing, business process outsourcing, technology licensing, development and maintenance agreements, and franchise and distribution agreements.  David has experience of acting for well-known companies in many industries, in particular retail, financial services, food and beverage manufacturing, and has supported some of the largest and most complex procurements within the UK.  David has been recognised in a number areas for his work, including being shortlisted for Lawyer of the Year 2016 (Made in Manchester Awards), and nominated for Associate of the Year (Manchester Legal Awards) and Young Lawyer of the Year 2016 (Insider Young Professionals).

  • Sentencing guidelines for corporate manslaughter

    In February 2010 the Sentencing Guidelines Council (the SGC) issued definitive guidelines to courts on imposing appropriate sentences for corporate manslaughter and health and safety offences causing death. The SGC states that fines imposed on companies found guilty of corporate manslaughter should not fall below £500,000, while fines in respect of health and safety offences that are a significant cause of death should be at least £100,000. Crucially, the SGC declined to provide for a fixed link between the imposed fine and the turnover or profitability of the offending company.
