Within: Real estate and construction

DLA Piper’s ‘extraordinary’ team focuses on commercial and residential real estate, including advice related to student accommodation, senior housing, social housing, data centres, hospitals, schools, corporate occupiers, and hotels and leisure. Recent highlights include assisting Savills with an investment into the redevelopment project of the dismissed Milan rail ring and advising Kryalos, the investment platform of Blackstone in Italy, on a number of acquisitions for real estate funds All Star and Hortensia. Olaf Schmidt is ‘always one step ahead on his way to get the deal done’, while Paolo Foppiani has ‘great understanding of the client’s needs with the specific adjustments of the Italian system’. The Rome-based Francesco De Blasio is also recommended.

  • Sentencing guidelines for corporate manslaughter

In February 2010 the Sentencing Guidelines Council (the SGC) issued definitive guidelines to courts on imposing appropriate sentences for corporate manslaughter and health and safety offences causing death. The SGC states that fines imposed on companies found guilty of corporate manslaughter should not fall below £500,000, while fines in respect of health and safety offences that are a significant cause of death should be at least £100,000. Crucially, the SGC declined to provide for a fixed link between the imposed fine and the turnover or profitability of the offending company.
