Dentons is known for its ability to handle complex, cross-border transactions, and for its lender-side strength; in a recent highlight, team head James Irvine advised HSBC on €635m of real estate investment facilities to Chariot Top Group, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) incorporated in the Netherlands. The practice is, however, also strengthening its borrower-side capabilities, with clients including KSL Capital Partners, Apollo Global Management and Aprirose; Simon Masri was part of the team which advised the latter on its acquisition and the related financing of QHotels group from Bain Capital Credit and Canyon partners, the largest hotel portfolio acquisition deal in the UK in 2017. The team also counts a number of Asian banks, including United Overseas Bank, Development Bank of Singapore, OCBC and CIMB Bank Berhad, among its clients. Lorraine Davis, Simon Tweedle, Jason Sheard, Brendan Slack and Rob Thompson are also noted.

  • Legal aspects of documenting shipping finance transactions in the United Arab Emirates

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is strategically placed between Europe and the Far East. The UAE has been ranked among the top 15 maritime nations by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development and the UAE Government is working on plans to transform the shipping industry into one of the country’s major economic sectors.
