Position

Roy advises on all aspects of contentious and non-contentious planning for complex housing, commercial and mixed-use development, including environmental assessment, highways law and judicial review. He brings to his practice past experience of working on regeneration projects within local government and as a consultant. He is a solicitor advocate and appears at examinations and hearings and is a specialist in the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) and viability. He advises developers, funds, lenders and planning authorities on a range of complex regeneration, greenfield development and investment opportunities and is rated as one of the top 20 planning solicitors in the Planning Magazine Guide to Planning Lawyers, 2018. Roy has featured as one of The Lawyer's "Hot 100" legal leaders and innovators. He is also ranked in Legal 500 for his "sound judgement".

Dentons' team is headed by Stephen Ashworth, who specialises in major housing projects, including new towns and garden settlements, and retail schemes. Ashworth's recent development work includes the £1bn Winstanley and York Road project. Ashworth also continues to advise Great Western Developments Limited on the £775m Paddington Cube proposals, specifically on judicial challenges of the scheme. Roy Pinnock and Lucy McDonnell are acting for Sainsbury's in a public inquiry into the supermarket's Ilford scheme (which proposes to provide up to 683 residential units, with community uses and a replacement store); they are also advising on the client's Whitechapel store redevelopment.
