Position

Jan Willem leads Dentons’ dedicated telecoms group UKMEA. He has over 15 years experience in advising clients up and down the communications value chain on commercial matters and transactions, as well as strategic, policy and regulatory matters.

Career

Jan Willem previously worked at Standard Chartered Bank, UK communications regulator Ofcom, the European Commission and the Institute for Information Law.

Education

Jan Willem holds two masters degrees – one in Dutch law from Amsterdam University (1993) and another in international and comparative law from Brussels University (1995). He wrote his first masters thesis at the London School of Economics & Political Science (1993) and holds a diploma in English law from the College of Law Guildford (1997).

The technology, media and telecommunications practice at Dentons handles a range of transactional, regulatory, compliance and contentious matters, with an impressive client roster spanning UK government departments, high-profile corporates, high-growth disruptive technology companies and telecoms businesses. The group, which is led by Andy Lucas, includes Martin Fanning, who has particular experience assisting clients in the financial services, manufacturing and retail sectors. Lucas is frequently instructed on public sector IT projects; he recently handled the procurement of Transport for London's emergency services 4G LTE mobile communications programme. The team also includes head of the firm's global telecoms group Jan Willem van den Bos and IT specialist Dan Burge, who handles a range of major technology projects. Henrietta Baker and Tristan Jonckheer were recently promoted to the partnership.
