Roland is a partner in the real estate and retail departments. Roland heads our real estate team in Milton Keynes. Roland specialises particularly in landlord and tenant and development/regeneration work in relation to the retail, leisure, industrial, housing and office sectors. He also has experience on corporate support and banking work and in carrying out large scale due diligence projects. Roland has acted personally on a number of key strategic acquisition and disposals in the public and private sector, including mixed use regeneration and housing projects PPP projects for the public sector and many retail and leisure schemes. Roland has direct responsibility for portfolio and property management projects, development land transactions and large scale acquisitions/disposal programmes for a number of the firm’s key clients and runs a dedicated specialist team to handle work for clients operating multiple sites.

Specialists at Dentons provide expertise on housing, transportation, planning, procurement and environmental issues and the team stands out for the scale of the urban regeneration work that it attracts. Virginia Glastonbury, Stephen Ashworth, Mark Bassett, and Roland Gray are some of the key partners handling such work. It is advising Essex, Braintree, Colchester and Tendring Councils on their  proposals to create a number of garden communities which will provide thousands of homes; it is advising on planning policies, development vehicles as well as the delivery of commercial spaces and infrastructure. It is also advising the Greater London Authority on the complex redevelopment of Beam Park, a former Ford industrial site which would deliver thousands of homes, leisure areas and a new rail station.

The commercial property practice at Dentons is praised for its 'very high level of service; the team is attentive, responsive, solution minded, and works to reduce red tape and delays by picking up the phone to talk through and resolve issues.' Led by Roland Gray, the practice has wide-ranging expertise covering work for developers and housebuilders including Taylor Wimpey; infrastructure and regeneration projects for clients such as Network Rail; assisting retail clients such as Sainsbury's and John Lewis Partnership with portfolio management matters. Recent highlights include acting for a consortium of local authorities in the northern Home Counties on the proposed development of a number of new garden communities. In an illustration of the practice's real estate finance expertise, Robert Wyatt acted for Standard Chartered Bank on the £41m financing of a super-prime residential property in London. Other key figures include Greg Rigby, who acts for retailers and property investors, as well as handling railway property matters. Chris Denny retired from private practice in 2017.
