Career

John Haythorne is the Vancouver lead and National Co-Chair of Dentons Canada’s Infrastructure and PPP group. He practises in the areas of construction, engineering and infrastructure, with special emphasis on negotiating, drafting and advising on contracts. He is particularly experienced in public-private partnerships, advising owners on the structure and administration of procurement and legal issues relating to design and construction. He has acted for municipal, healthcare authorities and the Province of British Columbia advising on the law relating to tenders, requests for proposals and complex procurements. John began his career practising in construction litigation.

Among Dentons’ recent highlights, Vancouver-based department co-chair John Haythorne advised Vancouver Fraser Port Authority on the C$454m Centerm Expansion Project. In Montreal, Anca Neacsu and Mathilde Carrière are advising ENGIE Services, as operation and maintenance provider in a consortium, on the Ohio State University energy project. Montreal-based Ilan Dunsky and Toronto-based Michael Ledgett chair the group.

Lalonde, who is highly regarded for his strong experience in government contracting law, anti-corruption and contentious matters, advised Harris Corporation on the¬†Canadian aspects of its $690m sale of IT and defence-related assets. On the projects front, Vancouver‚Äôs¬†John Haythorne¬†is advising Vancouver Fraser Port Authority on the procurement of the Centerm Expansion Project.

Dentons has 'great expertise in the field' and recently represented the State of Papua New Guinea in an ICSID arbitration commenced by Puma; 'outstanding' New York-based attorney Meriam Al-Rashid successfully led the matter to a favorable settlement of $12.2m. In the Washington DC office, practice head William T. O’Brien acted as lead counsel for defense company Orbital ATK in a $27m dispute against German gun manufacturer Heckler & Koch, pertaining to alleged violations of international laws of war. Noted for his 'excellent competence and capability', O'Brien has broad international experience in complex multi-jurisdictional matters. John Hay in New York is also recommended.
