Position

Aian Abbas is of counsel in Dentons’ Rome office.

She has considerable experience in advising equity finance providers on the full spectrum of M&A and corporate finance transactions, with a particular focus on private equity and leveraged finance.

Aian regularly assists private equity funds, financial institutions and industrial companies in domestic and international M&A and private equity transactions, as well as provides general corporate advice and assistance for ordinary corporate needs.

She is also experienced in restructuring and small-size (typically minority) equity transactions.

Career

Before joining Dentons in 2016, Aian was a partner at Ashurst and, previously, she spent almost ten years at Studio Legale Giliberti Pappalettera Triscornia e Associati, starting in 2002 as an associate and leaving in 2011 as a partner.

Dentons is regularly involved in cross-border transactions.  Recent strategic deals include the team advising Johnson & Johnson on the Italian aspects of its global sale of business unit Codman Neurosurgery to US company Integra LifeSciences Holdings Corporation; and advice to KKR-backed Calsonic Kansei on the Italian aspects of the agreement by its holding company, CK Holdings, to acquire Magneti Marelli, the automotive components business of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Recommended are Alessandro Dubini, Luca Pocobelli, Pier Francesco Faggiano, of counsel Aian Abbas and Barbara Urselli, who was promoted to partner in March 2019; the China desk in Italy is co-headed by Junyi Bai, who joined from Giovannelli e Associati Studio Legale, and counsel Claudio Giammarino. Carsten Steinhauer was a new arrival in January 2019 from McDermott Will & Emery Studio Legale Associato. Former corporate and M&A and private equity head Stefano Speroni left the firm for an in-house role at ENI in January 2019.

Acting for both funds and sellers, Dentons focuses mainly on the mid-market. Luca Pocobelli assisted the controlling shareholder of Austrian-based PE firm Lifebrain with the sale of all its shares to an Investindustrial-controlled vehicle. Alessandro Dubini and of counsel Aian Abbas are also highly regarded. Former head of the private equity as well as corporate and M&A practices Stefano Speroni left the firm in January 2019 for an in-house role at ENI.
