Ladislav Smejkal is Partner, Head of Criminal law practice and Co-Head of Employment Practice Group as well as a senior member of the Litigation and Dispute resolution group in Dentons’ Prague office. Ladislav has 17 years’ experience in the legal business. He focuses on criminal law and employment law, as well as on litigation and dispute resolution.

Ladislav is a trial attorney with substantial experience in representing organizations in complex civil litigation and criminal cases, conducting internal corporate investigations, responding to government investigations and enforcement actions, counseling client on compliance matters, and defending them in white-collar criminal cases.

Ladislav also provides complex contentious and non-contentious employment law advice . He is particularly experienced in employment litigation, including proceedings before the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court, unfair dismissal cases, personal data protection, employee dismissals, non-competition clauses, collective bargaining and relationships with trade unions, discrimination at the workplace, safety at work, damage claims and employee benefits. 

He provides legal advice to clients from a wide range of sectors, with a focus on the manufacturing, construction, automotive, health care and pharmaceutical sectors.


Before joining Dentons in 2014, Ladislav worked as Associate (2008 – 2011) and Local partner (2012 – 2014) with the Prague office of White & Case. Prior to this he cooperated with Kocián Šolc Balaštík.

Ladislav graduated from the Law Faculty of Charles University in Prague (Master of Laws in 2000 and Doctor of Laws in 2007). Also, Ladislav studied law at Hamburg University.

Dentons' recent caseload saw Ladislav Štorek successfully representing Bainbridge Czech Republic Ústí nad Labem in arbitration proceedings against Tesco concerning a lease agreement; Petr Zákoucký acting for Sev.en in litigation relating to the reimbursement of gift tax from the Czech state that was imposed on free carbon dioxide emission allowances in breach of EU law; and criminal law specialist Ladislav Smejkal handling construction and employment disputes. Jiří Tomola is recommended for banking and finance disputes and insolvency matters.

Dentons' team is singled out for its 'high level of knowledge and experience, strong personality, and excellent communication skills'. The group leverages the firm's global network of offices to assist with cross-border transactions and day-to-day employment advisory work including data protection matters; it also has experience of handling employment litigation and criminal investigations. The team works very closely with its Bratislava office and recently advised Sanofi on the transfer of employees following the divestment of its European generics division. Other recent work includes representing Valeo Výměníky Tepla in an alleged unfair dismissal claim and advising various clients on data protection and GDPR matters. Ladislav Smejkal and Tomáš Bílek jointly lead the team.
