John Stansfield is an English-law qualified banking partner based in Dentons’ Prague office.
He has extensive experience focusing on international banking, acting for lenders, borrowers (including sovereigns) and sponsors on a broad range of syndicated and secured debt products, with particular emphasis on emerging markets and structured trade and commodity financings, leveraged and acquisition finance, real estate financings and restructurings.

John has worked on a large number of banking transactions in the CEE and CIS where the core finance agreements have been governed under English law.


John has 18 years’ experience at Linklaters where he established the English law banking team in Moscow 1998-2000 and was partner heading up the English law finance team in Germany 2004-2010, and partner co-heading the banking team in Moscow 2010-2012. He joined Dentons Moscow in 201 and relocated to Prague in 2015.

Singled out for its solid real estate finance expertise, Dentons' broad practice also advises on major acquisition and leveraged finance, project finance, and export finance transactions, as well as regulatory matters. Clients praise its 'thorough understanding of the needs of both creditors and debtors and the ability to draft solutions that can be used to get the deal done quickly to the satisfaction of both parties'. The team is jointly led by Daniel Hurych and Jiří Tomola, and saw the promotion of Tomáš Osička to the partnership and the hire of associate Jarmila Hager. John Stansfield is another name to note and focuses on emerging markets, and structured trade and export financings and restructurings. The team advised Residomo on the Czech aspects of the issuance of senior secured bonds, and assisted PF Nonwovens with the financing of its acquisition of First Quality Nonwovens and First Quality Nonwovens. It also advised Česká spořitelna and Československá obchodní banka on the syndicated financing of the acquisition of a 70% stake in AutoCont group by KKCG and acted for UniCredit Bank on the refinancing of a number of real estate portfolios of CTP, a leading commercial real estate developer and manager operating in Central Europe.
