Career

Carolina leads the criminal law and the compliance and anti-corruption teams in Dentons Muñoz. With more than 15 years of criminal law experience, she is nationally and internationally recognized for her comprehensive capabilities in dispute resolution, criminal defense and prosecution of white-collar crimes, cyber-crimes, copyright infringement, environmental crimes, tax crimes, local and international anti-corruption laws (e.g., the FCPA and UK Bribery Act), and compliance matters across the region.

For many years, she worked for the prosecutor´s office in San José, Costa Rica. She worked first in the Specialized Appeals Unit and, later, at the Joint Office for Economic, Corruption, and Tax Crimes. She also assists in commercial arbitration proceedings and promotes Costa Rica as an international arbitration venue. In 2008, Carolina also completed an internship at the Fraud and Corruption Division of the prosecutor’s office in Munich, Germany.

She is president and founder of the Anti-Corruption Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, Chapter Costa Rica, and she is the president of the Technical National Committee for the implementation of the Antibribery Management System (ISO 37001) on behalf of the Costa Rican Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, Carolina is a member of: 1) the Anti-Corruption Sub-Committee of the Costa Rican government initiative, Gobierno Abierto, representing UCCAEP, and she actively represents the Firm at the Anti-Illicit Trade Committee of the Costa Rican American Chambers of Commerce; 2) both Arbitral Women and Factor f+m at the Costa Rican-American Chambers of Commerce, as part of her efforts to empower women in law; 3) the Latin America Steering Committee representing Costa Rica in the “Equal Representation in Arbitration Pledge,” and 4) the Costa Rican Criminal Sciences Association and of the International Bar Association (IBA)
