Career

Gil Rémillard’s career spans 30 years of private practice in law and education. From 1985 to 1994, he held several positions within the Quebec Government as the Minister of International Relations, the Minister of Public Security, the Minister of Justice, the Attorney General, and the Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs.

 

As the Minister of Justice for nearly six years, he presided over the completion of the new Civil Code of Québec, which has been in effect since January 1, 1994. He was also a special advisor to the Prime Minister of Canada with respect to constitutional matters and an advisor to the U.N. Canadian delegation. The recipient of a Ph.D. in law (doctorat d’État), he has written several books and articles on constitutional law, administrative law, business law and human rights. He has also been invited as a visiting professor and guest lecturer by numerous Canadian and foreign universities and organizations.
