Within: Energy

The ‘knowledgeable’ team at DWF is noted for its energy and renewables expertise and operates closely with its colleagues across the firm’s international network. Electricity, gas, water, renewables and nuclear work are key areas of focus. The team is advising ScottishPower on the £650m 1800 MW combined cycle gas turbine project in Kent. Vensys Energy and United Utilities Renewable Energy are also key clients. Andrew Symms heads the energy and industrials sector team and is based across the Manchester and Leeds offices. Catherine Haslam heads the solar team and is experienced in renewable energy projects, while head of water Steve Morris acts for energy and utility companies on a range of disputes, and James Lupton is part of the firm’s procurement group. Renewables team head Christian Hellmund operates across the Manchester and Leeds offices, as does EU and competition head Jonathan Branton. Michael Mousdale joined Browne Jacobson LLP in March 2018.

DWF’s department, which is ‘excellent in all aspects’ is led by Andrew Symms, who ‘consistently provides sound and thoughtful advice that the client can always rely on’. The team recently advised on the construction of a combined-cycle gas turbine project in Kent for ScottishPower; it also assisted Caddick with the redevelopment of Headingly Stadium, represented Doosan Power Systems in a dispute relating to the conversion of a coal-fired power station to biomass, and acted for Wrenbridge on its involvement in the development of sports and leisure facilities in the new York Community Stadium. Clients also single out recently promoted partner Christian Hellmund, who focuses on the energy and renewables sectors, and director Shaun Hill, who handles non-contentious matters for retail sector clients.
