Crutes is an independent, regional firm with a track record for providing a top-class service to clients both large and small. A broad-based commercial practice with an equally strong capability in commercial, private client, and litigation work.
The firm: A leading force in the North East legal market, Crutes has broadened its service offering and boosted its personnel in key areas, thanks, in part, to some inspired lateral hires from larger North East and national rivals. Crutes recognises that, as a professional service firm, people are its greatest asset and places great emphasis on attracting and retaining quality staff and partners. It is not enough to merely gain IIP accreditation; as a firm Crutes demonstrates an ongoing commitment to its staff. The firm is proud of its people, believing they are the reason clients choose to work with the firm in the first place and most importantly, why they stay.
Crutes is a firm that understands people are the key to building relationships with clients – so that they can listen to the clients’ needs and provide them with legal solutions that deliver. This is an approach that is paying dividends, as Crutes has shifted its position from a niche solicitors’ practice to a highly regarded full-service law firm.
Looking ahead, Crutes hopes to build on the successes of the last year and continue to challenge the legal hierarchy in the North East during 201 1 and beyond.
Types of work undertaken: The past year has seen Crutes continue to grow in stature and reputation, emerging as a leading light in an increasingly competitive regional marketplace.
Crutes has achieved this thanks to a two-pronged approach – firstly, it has maintained its strong links with the public sector and the insurance industry. It remains one of the leading law firms in the UK in the insurance litigation field – acting for a number of the leading insurers.
Secondly, the firm has established itself within the commercial litigation marketplace – and has successfully built up a significant client base within the SME and owner-managed sector in the area. The firm has focused increasingly on the healthcare sector and has dealt with the purchase, letting, development and funding of nursing homes in the private sector and representing primary care trusts and doctors in surgery developments in both the public and private sector. The addition of Alison Oliver from Lockharts will only serve to increase the firms’ presence in this area of work.
