The team at Mayer Brown International LLP is noted for its ‘specialist market knowledge’. David Harrison co-heads the firm’s European antitrust and competition practice and acted alongside corporate partner Richard Smith forTouchstone Innovations in connection with its takeover by IP Group, which was conditional on Phase 1 clearance by the CMA. In another key matter, Harrison and of counsel Warsha Kalé have been advising CITIC Telecom CPC on the worldwide merger control aspects of its acquisition of the telecommunication assets of Linx Telecommunications. Julian Ellison, who splits his time between the firm’s London and Brussels offices, handles UK merger cases, EU second phase cases and public procurement issues involving a number of leading public and private sector projects.

DAC Beachcroft LLP provides a ‘can-do’, ‘highly pragmatic’ approach and ‘in-depth knowledge’, with a focus on regulated or public sectors, including healthcare, financial services and postal services. Practice head Alexandra von Westernhagen (who is noted for her ‘diverse knowledge of EU law’ and ‘ability to explain complex topics in clear terms’) assisted with the re-notification of the Development Bank of Wales’ Rescue & Restructuring Fund for SMEs for approval to the EC. Legal director David Harrison has been advising Royal Mail and The Association of Independent Healthcare Organisations on competition law and regulatory issues in relation to UK and EU law.
