The firm

On 31st October 2011, Davies Arnold Cooper and Beachcroft LLP merged to become DAC Beachcroft. It is a leading international legal business with more than 2,000 people across the UK, Europe, Asia Pacific and Latin America. The firm provides a full-service claims, transactional, commercial, risk and advisory capability. It works with clients in a select range of industry sectors and is a market leader in health, insurance and real estate.

DAC Beachcroft (formerly Davies Arnold Cooper) opened an office in Madrid in 1989, focusing on the international insurance and reinsurance market. While the focus of the practice is mainly on dispute resolution, contentious and non-contentious insurance and reinsurance-related work (including construction, professional liability, transport, financial lines, property and regulatory matters), the office also provides a full range of commercial legal advice, with expert lawyers specialising in all aspects of business law.

DAC Beachcroft has a strong presence in Latin American countries both directly and through its Mexican office and associated offices in Brazil (JBO Advocacia) and Chile (SegurosLex). The firm will be looking to expand further in Latin America over the next few years. DAC Beachcroft is also the only non-American firm member of Harmonie (www.harmonie.org), a network of litigation law firms with members in the US, Canada (through the Canadian Litigation Council) and Europe.

With over 20 years’ experience, DAC Beachcroft’s Spanish practice offers a full range of legal services and provides advice on all aspects of business law.

Insurance and reinsurance: DAC Beachcroft provides an international cross-border capability covering both claims and advisory across the full spectrum of services from systemised to bespoke. The firm’s capability spans the full range of clients’ requirements from claims – encompassing volume personal injury claims and specialist and international risks – through to commercial, corporate and regulatory advice.

Insurance litigation: DAC Beachcroft is a leading firm in insurance litigation and is most prominent in disputes relating to liability and commercial issues while boasting a very strong international capability. The team handles some of the most high-profile professional indemnity cases in the country and also enjoys a pre-eminent position in advising on property, product liability, energy and environmental, breach of contract and transport litigation.

Commercial litigation: DAC Beachcroft is one of the most active law firms in Spain in this area and is the preferred choice for domestic and international arbitration and ADR. Its lawyers have a strong reputation as mediators, arbitrators and counsel in arbitration proceedings.

Real estate: DAC Beachcroft has particular expertise in corporate and tax structurings of real estate transactions and are involved in key work in real estate investment, finance and asset management.

Corporate: DAC Beachcroft provides a full service to clients handling all aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including both public and private company acquisitions and disposals, flotations, investments, business sales and purchases and shareholder arrangements; corporate structurings; setting up companies; joint ventures; and related regulatory and compliance issues. The corporate team is fully integrated, with experts across the firm who can advise on employment, property, regulatory and transactional issues.

Employment: DAC Beachcroft advises clients on all aspects of employment law, including restructuring operations and redundancy dismissals, collective and individual negotiations, assistance before employment courts and are able to conduct legal compliance employment audits for foreign companies doing business in Spain.
