DPP Law is a leading nationwide firm providing business and criminal investigation defence services, including fraud and regulatory law, civil fraud and tax investigations.

The firm: This firm has a particular specialism in HMRC civil investigations/tax assessments, in addition to HMRC criminal investigations covering a wide spectrum of industries, including mobile phone, textiles, alcohol, pharmaceuticals and many others.

DPP Law also specialises in accident claims, actions against the police, motoring offences, prison law and family matters. It was established in 1982 as a criminal defence firm, and now has eight offices, employing nearly 100 staff.

Recognised as one of the most experienced, skilled and trusted legal practises in the UK, the firm’s team of criminal defence solicitors accounts for the biggest department in the entire organisation, with an established team of higher courts advocate and in-house barristers experienced in high-profile cases, including fraud, murder and drug importation.

In 2000, the firm was chosen by the Legal Services Commission to pilot the first ever 'serious fraud' contract due to the firm's reputation and expertise in this area.

The expansion of the firm has seen more offices open throughout London and the Midlands. In 2007, Birmingham was opened to service the fraud/regulatory work, and in 2010 the firm opened its Leicester office.

Types of work undertaken: The firm provides particular expertise in the area of fraud and business investigations. From minor violations to a wide spectrum of fraud-related work, including tax investigations involving complex offshore structures. The firm also provides advice in civil tax investigations/assessments. The firm acts for a number of traders in wholesale supply industries in relation to tax investigation/assessments made by HMRC. Often HMRC actions lead to goods being seized, and inaccurate/unfair tax assessments being made against these businesses. DPP Law are leading experts in appealing those decisions to the tax tribunal, and in some cases to the High Court.

The firm represents individuals, company directors, and professionals, such as accountants, doctors and dentists in respect of investigation and charges such as false accounting, money laundering, tax fraud, boiler room fraud, MTIC and Mortgage Fraud.

Notable cases include, in the area of confiscation, the leading court of appeal case of R v Akhtar, in which this firm successfully appealed the conviction of a mortgage broker in respect of money laundering offences, and in which the definition of 'criminal property' was made clear.

The firm is currently acting for a company director in one of the largest and most high-profile confiscation cases prosecuted by HMRC, involving enquiries in Hong Kong, UAE, Gibraltar, Spain, Switzerland, the Caribbean and Jersey. The team has been successful in defending confiscation cases involving the issue of 'unexplained income' and 'hidden assets'.

DPP Law is fully registered, regulated and recognised as a top legal establishment in handling accident claims on behalf of the public for over 35 years.

The firm's lawyers operate across England and Wales, acquiring accident compensation for victims suffering from a host of different injuries. The firm works on a personal level, taking individual cases and concerns on-board, in order to get maximum justice for injuries.

The firm wins over 99% of the cases it takes to court, and routinely settles claims outside court for at least 50% more than the insurers 'best and final offer'. The firm is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Solicitors (APIL).

DPP Law continues to grow in its reputation for providing business, regulatory and criminal defence services with its numerous offices located throughout the UK. The firm is committed to provide specialist advice in these areas and aims to continue to provide the highest quality of service.
