Career

I am an expert in criminal law with an emphasis on representing people in court and under investigation. We believe the best advice should be available from the outset – as a senior solicitor, I continue to provide advice in the police station as part of our 24-hour cover.  Anyone interviewed by the police while under arrest or attending voluntarily is entitled to free legal advice. Contact me for immediate specialist advice.

Education

I have specialised in criminal law since 1996. I trained in Glasgow and first qualified as a solicitor in Scotland. I have been a qualified solicitor in England & Wales since 2001. I am a qualified duty solicitor, member of the Criminal Litigation Accreditation Scheme and supervisor.

David Gray Solicitors LLP is recognised by clients and peers alike for its criminal law practice, which frequently works in conjunction with the firm’s mental health, immigration and family departments. In co-operation with the latter, the team acted in a case concerning the assault against a child where a parent is said to be responsible for the infliction of non-accidental injuries. Other recent work includes acting for a client accused of joint enterprise murder, defending a client against drug supply-related allegations as well as acting in a number of rape trials and proceedings concerning death by dangerous driving. Team head Brian Hegarty frequently acts as a higher court advocate and represents defendants in the Crown Court and Court of Appeal. Other key individuals include solicitor Michael Gibson, who is particularly experienced in handling assault and motoring offence-related trials, senior solicitor Janice Hall, who is well versed in dealing with youth court proceedings alongside criminal matters involving domestic violence and sexual offences, as well as solicitors Emma Silburn and Paul Harbison, who are both recognised for their expertise in mental health-related work.
