Position
Bernard is the managing partner of Byrne and Partners LLP. He specialises in commercial litigation, with an emphasis on civil fraud, and frequently acts for both claimants and defendants in high-value, multi-jurisdictional matters. Over the past ten years Bernard has led the worldwide representation of the Abacha family in their defence of wide ranging claims by the Nigerian government and others, and has acted in key litigation arising out of the Yukos Oil affair, including representing former Yukos subsidiaries in claims against Rosneft Oil. Bernard also has extensive experience of regulatory defence work. He advises on investigations by a variety of regulatory bodies (including the FSA, BIS and overseas regulators) covering such matters as money laundering, market abuse, director disqualification and Insolvency and Companies Act investigations. In addition Bernard frequently advises on extradition and mutual legal assistance requests. Bernard was formerly a partner at Dechert, where he led the civil fraud team. He left to form Byrne and Partners.
