Main areas of practice

Arbitration: WBC Abogados has vast experience in arbitration involving contracts, corporate and commercial matters. It has clients from the construction and the oil and gas sectors before the National Chamber of Commerce Arbitration Center as well as under the CAINCO Arbitration Center and other national arbitration centers.

Corporate: international and local clients retain the firm due to its vast experience in all corporate issues, including governance, mergers and acquisitions, labor and taxation matters under Bolivian law.

Commercial: WBC Abogados has been providing legal advice to international clients in international public bids for the provision of infrastructure in Bolivia such as construction of EPC power plants and gas separation plants as well as operation and management agreements.

Energy: the firm has great expertise in the electrical sector, advising companies that operate in Bolivia in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity advising clients in implementation of combined cycle power plants projects and counseling clients in regulatory matters.

Foreign investment: the firm provides legal services to multinational companies who wish to invest in Bolivia through a branch, subsidiary or association with local companies or wish to become shareholders of local companies. Furthermore, the firm has counseled various investors regarding bilateral investment treaties (BITs) and other regional agreements.

Intellectual property: recently, the firm has added a partner to attend to the growing demand in this area: they have the resources and broad experience in the protection and acknowledgement of rights in trademarks, designs, patents, authorship rights, as well as the transfer and licensing of said rights.

Mining: the firm has negotiated contracts with the Bolivian government in order to explore, exploit and commercialize minerals, as well as any easement agreements with the communities.

Oil and gas: WBC Abogados has become a leader in this area, working in all phases (upstream and downstream) providing legal counsel to multinational companies, as well as subsidiaries of YPFB Corporation.

Project financing: the firm has been involved in financing of different projects, both from international private banks, hedge funds as well as other international organizations, such as the CAF and IDB.

Clients: 90% of the WBC Abogados portfolio is made up of international clients that include leading oil and gas corporations, telecom, tech and OTT corporations, leading Asian and European agrochemical corporations, clients from the Middle East, leading financing institutions and mining corporations, international organizations, among others.
