Jara del Favero Abogados' sizeable corporate and M&A practice routinely assists companies with their ongoing corporate affairs, restructurings, corporate development planning, M&A, and cross-border transactions. Specialised in commercial and corporate law, Sven Herlin leads the firm’s real estate and M&A offerings, and Felipe Ovalle heads up the financing, corporate, infrastructure and labour practices. Also key to the team, Alvaro Caviedes' experience includes both M&A issues and corporate governance work. In January 2023, real estate and corporate law practitioner Julio Trucco was raised to partner, while associate Marina Junge ​​-who also advises on commercial, corporate and real estate law- is also noted. The group routinely assists with the restructuring of family assets and the reorganisation of corporate family structures, including the analysis of business transfer transactions and tax contingencies. The department also advises on tax compliance, in addition to defence-side work before Chile’s tax authorities and courts of law. Tax and corporate practice leader Rafael Valdivieso assists international companies looking to invest in Chile on tax issues; and at associate level, both senior Martín Hudson and Andrés de Iruarrizaga maintain active tax practices.

Jara Del Favero Abogados's environment and natural resources team is led by former Minister and Undersecretary of the Environment, Javier Naranjo, an April-2022 hire who has extensive administrative and environmental law experience; since his arrival Naranjo (who can also call on regulatory specialist associate Martín Esser), has been raised to the partnership - effective as of July 2023.

In January 2023, Jara Del Favero Abogados' Alfred Sherman was promoted from director to partner; heading up the four-member team, he advises a range of clients on individual and collective labour laws, as well as collective bargaining and labour-related lawsuits - particularly employee dismissals, work accidents, anti-union practices, and the protection of basic rights.

Jara Del Favero, Attorneys-at-Law, was founded in 1939 and is now a modern and multidisciplinary firm whose main task is to provide a comprehensive and excellent service to its clients. The firm currently advises national and international clients engaging in the most varied of businesses, such as financial institutions, utilities, mining, infrastructure, foods, forestry, agriculture, wine making, energy, environment, technology, tourism and the government.

Main areas of practice
Environment: the firm provides legal assistance regarding environmental regulations and the use and management of natural resources, counseling clients on the environmental impact assessment of investment projects, on the enforcement of strong environmental regulations and on renewable and non-renewable natural resources.

Mining and water law: the firm has expertise in assisting clients in all stages of mining projects, starting with mineral exploration and exploitation up to obtaining respective concessions, as well as in the development, financing and commercial operation of the project, and protection of mining concessions. Its lawyers have broad experience in providing advice to clients on all aspects of water law, such as the establishment of water rights, the obtainment of permits and authorizations according to the water code.

Finance: the firm assists clients on preparing and executing loan agreements, project finance agreements, banking and all other related finance agreements.

Tax: the firm advises clients in the design and implementation of structures appropriate to their business, and on the development of strategies and solutions to maximize their resources through a purpose-oriented legal structure. It makes inquiries to the Internal Revenue Service of Chile (IRS) and advises and represents its clients in any audits by the IRS or in tax lawsuits, whether before the IRS or the ordinary courts of law.

Litigation: the firm represents clients in any type of negotiation or lawsuit, developing strategies to lead them to satisfactory agreements, whether in civil, commercial, criminal, contentious or administrative lawsuits. Members of the firm perform jurisdictional duties as arbitrators.

Pharmaceuticals, food and cosmetics: the firm has vast experience advising companies linked with these areas and participates in all issues connected to these industries, such as product registration, commercialization authorizations, advertising, sanctioning processes and judicial claims.

Labor: the firm specializes in employment and collective contracts and negotiations, expatriates, visa proceedings and labor litigation.

Corporate/M&A: the firm has vast experience in planning and participating in restructurings, mergers, acquisitions, reorganizations and splits of companies or corporations, holding companies, matters involving securities and joint venture agreements.
