Matías Vergara - Carey

Within: Insurance

Carey is highly rated for its advice on incorporation and registration matters, complex dispute resolution and loss adjustment processes; and it has substantial expertise in representing lenders and borrowers in the structuring of their project finance insurance and reinsurance packages. Transactional highlights saw the team advise Fairfax Financial Holdings on the Chilean aspects of its $240m regional acquisition of AIG‚Äôs commercial and consumer insurance operations, which involved its businesses in Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay. The practice also acted for Fennia Mutual Insurance Company in the preparation of a memorandum, which related to statutory labour-accident insurance and employer-liability issues; and advised Aela Generaci√≥n on the structuring and negotiation of an insurance and reinsurance package, including insurance and reinsurance endorsements for three wind farms. On the contentious side, the team successfully represented international insurance and reinsurance company Travelers Syndicate in the defence and settlement of an insurance loss dispute. Other active clients include Liberty International and Integro Insurance Brokers. Marcos R√≠os, Pablo Iacobelli, Diego Peralta and Guillermo Acu√Īa are recommended. Since publication, senior associate Mat√≠as Vergara has been promoted to partner.
