His practice areas are Civil Litigation, and Domestic and International Arbitration (ICSID, ICC, UNCITRAL). He has successfully represented Chile and several Latin American countries and foreign investors in numerous foreign investment disputes before the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID) of the World Bank. He has also extensive experience as a litigator in domestic and international commercial arbitration.


Mr. Gil previously worked for Arnold & Porter LLP, Washington D.C. – London (2008-2009), Álvarez Hinzpeter Jana, Santiago, Chile (2003-2007), as well as the Centro de Estudios Públicos (CEP) Santiago, Chile (2003) and the Firm Barros Court Correa, Santiago, Chile (1999). In 2015, he was appointed Chair of the Private Law Department at Universidad de Chile, where he has been Professor for Civil Law since 2010.  Mr. Gil was a Research Assistance on UNCITRAL arbitration rules at Berkeley Law School (2008).
He received the recognition as Attorney of the Year by the Chilean Pro Bono Foundation in 2006

Rodrigo received his J.D. degree from Universidad de Chile (1999) and holds his LL.M. degree as a Fulbright Scholar from Berkeley Law School, California (2008).

Bofill, Mir & Álvarez Jana fields a highly regarded, 17-strong disputes practice. The civil and commercial litigation team is well known for public-interest litigation, while the firm's arbitration practice area stands out for its experience in construction, commercial law and gas, natural resource and energy disputes. Recent work saw the team advise Mineria Candelaria in a $41m claim brought by a community of fishermen alleging contamination of the waters around Punto Padro Port as a result of the incorrect loading and unloading of copper. Other matters include the successful defence of Bayer in a $1.4m tort case, representing CORFO in $40m and $150m damages claims and Minera Los Pelambres in a $10.5m civil liability case concerning water rights. The team underwent change in January 2019 when former litigation and criminal defence co-head Rodrigo Quintana exited (with former senior associates Ignacio Ried and Camila Flores) to establish QRF Abogados; the firm moved rapidly hiring former Gutiérrez, Waugh, Jimeno & Asenjo senior associate, Karen Werner, as partner, the same month. A civil litigator, Werner joins a team composed of name partner Andrés Jana, who leads the firm’s litigation and arbitration practice; all-round arbitral specialist Rodrigo Gil; and domestic arbitration-focused senior associate Carla Dittus. Clients incude Bice Vida, Terra Mater, Codelco, Grupo Inmobiliaria Imagina and Enap Refinerías.
