Position

Marcos is a senior associate of Beccar Varela.

Career

Marcos focuses on mining, natural resources and energy. He also has wide experience in corporate law. Prior to joining the firm, Marcos worked for several years as a senior foreign attornew of the Mining and Natural Resources team at “Bofill, Mir & Alvarez, Jana” (Santiago, Chile), advising international mining companies. During his experience in Chile, he also acted as chief counsel of TSX and AIM listed “Orosur Mining Inc” (Santiago, Chile).

He participated in senior and junior mining transactions, and operations related to extracting industries, in Argentina, Chile, Uruguay and Colombia, where he advised mostly on corporate affairs, including drafting and negotiating MOU, Term Sheet, NDA, JVA, SPA, SHA, Earn-in, Take-off, Farm-in, EPC, EPCM and related complex agreements, as well as on corporate governance affairs of TSX listed Companies.

Marcos is a member of the Buenos Aires Bar Association and of the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation.

Education

Marcos graduated as a lawyer from the Universidad de Buenos Aires in 2004. He obtained his LLM in Comparative Law from the Northwestern University School of Law (partial merit scholarship, Chicago 2007-2008). In addition, he achieved a postgraduate degree in Mining Law at Universidad Finis Terrae, graduating with the highest distinction in his class (Santiago, Chile, 2015).

Beccar Varela’s mining group, led by Roberto Fortunati, routinely advises on a wide range of finance, corporate, tax and regulatory matters. Recent work includes acting for Southern Copper on regulatory and community matters regarding its exploration projects in Argentina. Other representative clients include Minera Don Nicolás, Saint Gobain Argentina and Esco Servicios Mineros. Senior associate Marcos Moreno Hueyo is also a key contact.
