Over the years the firm has been awarded a number of internationally recognized awards for its client service approach and quality of work, including the International Gold Star for Quality in May 2001, the Platinum Award for Excellence and Business Prestige in July 2002, the Century International Diamond Quality Era Award in May 2003 and the Arch of Europe Award in the Diamond category, April 2004 for business and brand name Prestige, Technology, Innovation and Expansion.

Mkono & Co has ranked in the Chambers and Partners: The worlds Leading Lawyers for four consecutive years since 2000.

Mkono & Co was founded 27 years ago by the Honorable Nimrod E. Mkono as an international commercial and financial practice. The firm has grown steadily over the past decade and has established a first-class reputation in the corporate field and intellectual property law. It is, without doubt, the premier Tanzanian law firm as it has had significantly more privatization, telecommunications, intellectual property and banking experience than any other Tanzanian law firm.

Over the years, the firm has formed a number of alliances with law firms and lawyers practicing in other jurisdictions. A formal alliance would result in exposure to the current trends in law, which are sweeping the world and would also result in facilitating proper training for the young lawyers. On 1st May 2001, Mkono & Co set up an alliance with Denton Wilde Sapte, a major London-based international law firm, with over 180 partners, 620 other legal staff, and over 1,500 staff in their offices around the world.

The association stops short of a merger but the expectation is that in due course the relations would come even closer. The move will build on the two law firms' existing strengths in corporate and trade finance. As a result, Mkono & Co provides a range of legal services to major commercial clients from within and outside Tanzania. Mkono & Co recognizes that clients want commercial solutions to help them achieve their business objectives, and only by really understanding their businesses can the Firm be able to deliver.
