With more than 25 years of experience litigating and resolving disputes to support her clients' strategic goals and objectives, Ava serves as managing partner of McGuireWoods’ Baltimore office and heads the Baltimore litigation practice group. She represents clients from a broad range of industries − including financial, retail, telecommunications and petroleum/energy − in complex commercial and civil litigation in state and federal courts. Ava has served as lead counsel in numerous trial and litigation matters. In state, federal and appellate courts, she has defended businesses involved in class-action litigation and helped resolve contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, lender liability matters, construction issues, products liability cases and check fraud issues. She secured an almost $9 million jury verdict on behalf of a petroleum/energy company arising from the breach of a supply contract, and she effectively defended, at trial and appellate court levels, a multimillion-dollar claim against a financial institution involving alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Recently, she served as appellate counsel for a petroleum/energy company in reversing adverse jury verdicts that originally awarded plaintiffs hundreds of millions of dollars in compensatory damages, and in helping to secure the reversal of over a billion dollars in punitive damages. She frequently speaks on litigation, leadership and diversity issues.
