McGuireWoods LLP is noted for its 'efficient and effective use of resources’ and 'very good firm culture’. It maintains a nationwide commercial litigation practice that is especially strong in the financial services sector. For example, it successfully represented a mortgage lender in a case brought by borrowers challenging the framework of the mortgage securitization industry; the team – led by Ava Lias-Booker in Baltimore – secured a victory in the Maryland Court of Appeals. Atlanta-based Cheryl Haas is a leading figure in the firm for financial services-sector litigation; ACTL fellow Jonathan Blank is based in Charlottesville and is 'responsive, practical and strategic’; and Robert Muckenfuss chairs the commercial litigation department from Charlotte.
