Position

Lesley is the Head of Intellectual Property and specialises in trade mark availability searches, filing/registration (local and international), prosecution, renewals and recordals (assignments and registered users), commercial agreements relating to all aspects of intellectual property (trade marks, copyright, registered designs, patents and domain names as well as technology and know how) including assignment and licensing agreements, trade mark litigation (oppositions, cancellations, infringement, passing off and unlawful competition), franchise agreements, watching (monitoring) service for trade marks and domain names, copyright protection and litigation, domain name registration, renewals and litigation, domain name litigation, ambush marketing, IP audits, Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) complaints, registered design applications and renewals, anti-counterfeiting, brand protection, confidentiality agreements, company and close corporation name objections, and IP security interests.

Career

Lesley is a partner and head of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. She qualified as an English Solicitor in 1990 (now non-practising) before becoming a South African attorney. She has 18 years experience in the protection, management, development, enforcement, licensing, assignment and commercialization of all aspects of intellectual property, particularly trade marks and copyright. She advises Webber Wentzel's clients on intellectual property issues arising from their corporate transactions such as acquisitions and mergers, sales of shares and security interests. Lesley is a qualified Trade Mark Practitioner and a Fellow of the South African Institute of Intellectual Property Law.
