Bowman Gilfillan has announced changes in its Competition Law Practice Group.

Bowman Gilfillan, one of South Africa’s leading corporate law firms, earlier this year formed its first formal association with an African law firm from Kenya, and so set a pattern for what it expects to become a substantial African-wide enterprise.

Bowman Gilfillan acted for Denham Capital, a US private equity firm, in respect of its investment in BioTherm Energy, a cleaner and renewable energy company. The equity investment will be for an amount of up to US$150 million (~R1,6 billion).

Bowman Gilfillan advised both Pretoria Portland Cement Company Limited (PPC) and Barloworld on the unbundling by Barloworld of its 71.67% shareholding in Pretoria Portland Cement Company Limited (PPC). Deal value: R18.8 billion

Bowman Gilfillan represented Continental AG in obtaining approval from the South African competition authorities for the proposed acquisition of control by the Schaeffler Group. Approval from the European Commission is still required and therefore the transaction has not been implemented.

Bowman Gilfillan acted as South African counsel to the WPP Group PLC ("WPP") in relation to its hostile bid for Taylor Nelson Sofres PLC ("TNS")

Sale by Allied Technologies Ltd and Altech Information Technolgies (Pty) Ltd of its Namitech business to Gemalto NV. 

Bowman Gilfillan acted for Metorex in its R3 billion capital and debt restructuring program.

Leading African law firm, Bowman Gilfillan, with headquarters in Johannesburg, will commence a close association with Kenyan law firm Coulson Harney with effect from 1 September 2008.  Coulson Harney is a new law firm being established by leading Kenyan corporate lawyers Richard Harney and Philip Coulson.
