Appleby's banking practice focuses on all aspects of banking law, ship and aircraft registration and finance, asset-backed finance and project and infrastructure finance, while in capital markets it fields experts in securities law, listing special purpose vehicles on international and offshore stock exchanges, IPOs, and debt and equity issuances. In corporate finance, the practice is particularly focused on clients from the financial services, insurance, technology and telecoms sectors as well as oil and gas, and natural resources, retail and manufacturing. Appleby's practice handles minority shareholder oppression cases and frequently advises on director liabilities and corporate governance issues for boards of large Bermuda companies; the team also assists with large restructuring and insolvency matters as well as fund disputes. In other areas, Bermuda dispute resolution group head John Wasty represents reinsurers and insurers, policyholders, captives and brokers in arbitration, litigation and mediation matters. In a very high-value restructuring highlight, the team advised the Coordinating Committee, on behalf of the lenders of Seadrill Group's 13 senior secured facilities, on their rights in bankruptcy proceedings, a reorganisation plan and recognition proceedings in Bermuda. Counsel Steven White, who joined from Cox Hallett Wilkinson Limited, handles trust disputes and advises on employment-related contractual disputes, employee reorganisations and executive terminations.
