Patricia Menendez-Cambo serves as the Vice President of Greenberg Traurig. She is also Chair of Greenberg Traurig's Global Practice, Co-Chair of the Global Corporate & Securities Practice, Co-Chair of the Global Energy & Infrastructure Practice, and is a member of the firm's Executive Committee. Patricia previously served as Subdirectora General for Telefónica S.A. and General Counsel to a number of their subsidiaries and affiliates, assisting them in relation to their global expansion. During her tenure as in-house counsel, she also served as Director for a number of entities within the Telefónica Group throughout Latin America and Europe.


Patricia works on mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate governance, as well as capital markets and general corporate and securities law matters. Patricia has been lead counsel on numerous first-time cross-border transactions. The National Law Journal has recognized Patricia four times in as many years, including as one of the "100 Most Influential Lawyers in America," one of the "Top 40 under 40" attorneys, one of the “50 Most Influential Women Lawyers in America,” and one of the “50 Most Influential Minority Lawyers in America.” She was also recognized in 2014 by Chambers USA Women in Law for “Outstanding Contribution to Gender Diversity,” as well as led the team selected by Chambers Latin America as the “2014 Corporate/M&A – Law Firm of the Year,” and “2015 Corporate & Finance – Law Firm of the Year (Florida-Based).


Patricia is fluent in English and Spanish, and is proficient in Portuguese.


Patricia was selected as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, and is an active member of its Regional Business Council for Latin America and its Global Gender Parity Group. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Council of the Americas, and serves as Secretary for the International Bar Association’s Women’s Interest Group.


Patricia received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and her B.A. in Economics from the University of Miami.

Greenberg Traurig LLP’s large and dedicated Latin America practice has achieved a high degree of market penetration in the banking and finance segment. It has built an especially strong record in Mexico, where it has a substantial and established Mexico City office, and across Central America. South American jurisdictions such as Argentina, Colombia and Chile are also fruitful markets for the firm. Clients include Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, Cervecería Costa Rica, MRO, Cap Cana Steering Committee, Oppenheimer & Co, Avianca Holdings and Hencorp Becstone Capital. Recent work has seen the team advise MesoAmerica Latam Opportunites Fund on its $120m revolving credit facility with Scotiabank; and also represent the Mexico-based producer of building materials for the construction industry, Elementia, on a $125m unsecured term loan provided by Scotiabank. In another notable deal, it advised leading Mexican paper producer, Grupo Bio Pappel, on a $450m secured syndicated credit facility. Firm vice-chair Patricia Menéndez-Cambó founded the Latin America practice and is noted for her acquisition and project finance activity in the region. Randy Bullard is another pivotal member of the team; he has deep experience in jurisdictions including Peru, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Costa Rica and Honduras. Emilio Alvarez-Farré covers both corporate transactions and financings in Latin America and has more than 25-years’ experience in the region. New York partner Ross Kaufman is recommended for syndicated loans, securitisation and asset-backed finance transactions in Brazil; and Jeffrey Tenen, chair of the global aircraft and equipment finance practice, has a strong focus on Latin America where he represents international airlines in Chile, Panama, Mexico, Colombia and various Central American jurisdictions.

Greenberg Traurig LLP has one of the largest teams of dedicated Latin America specialists of all the international law firms; it has Latin America facing teams in Mexico City, Miami, New York and a number of other US offices. Industry experience is one of its particular fortes with a number of the partners having significant in-house lawyer experience, some as deputy general counsels. Financial services and telecoms are two sectors where the firm has an especially strong record. Clients include Grupo Assa, The Related Group, Grupo Bio Pappel, Sobel Westex, Restaurant Brands International, Grupo Rotoplas and Organizacion Sanita. Showcasing its expertise in financial services, the practice continued to advise ASSA Compañía Tenedora and ASSA Compañía de Seguros on its acquisition of American International Group (AIG)’s operations in Central America, located in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Panama; as part of the deal AIG and ASSA will establish an on-going business partnership to pursue new opportunities in Central America. Additionally, the firm advised The Related Group on multiple joint ventures and acquisitions in Latin America, including the acquisition of a real estate project in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires. Firm vice chair Patricia Menéndez-Cambó is a seasoned figure in Latin America transactions, in particular in the telecoms and other regulated sectors. Randy Bullard and Emilio Alvarez-Farré are also experienced Latin America hands, with extensive records in M&A. Yosbel Ibarra is co-chair of the firm’s Latin America and Iberian practice and has almost 20 years of experience in M&A and private equity transactions in the region. Enrique Conde, Antonio Peña and Mark Lopez are also recommended. All named individuals are primarily based in Miami.

Greenberg Traurig LLP has a sizable department, with senior M&A practitioners operating from many of its 29 US offices. This geographic reach helps the firm service a diverse client base spanning a wide range of industries. On top of this, it is also noted for its expertise in cross-border M&A, particularly involving Latin America. In this regard, Miami-based vice chair of the firm Patricia Menéndez-Cambó has an outstanding reputation. The firm has developed an especially strong record in technology, healthcare, life sciences and pharmaceuticals transactions, and clients include the likes of AstraZeneca, Hard Rock International, Ryder System, Arlington Capital Partners, Macquarie Bank, TerraForm Power, Ocelot Partners and The Stars Group. Dennis Block, the New York-based senior chairman of the global M&A practice, recently led a team that advised the corporate governance and conflicts committee of the board of directors of TerraForm Power on the committee’s review of strategic options and the proposed $1.7bn merger and sponsorship transaction with Brookfield Asset Management. The firm’s growing presence in private equity saw it advise Medina Capital on its $2.8bn joint venture with international private equity house BC Partners. Alan Annex in New York, Chicago-based Peter Lieberman and Fort Lauderdale partner Bruce March are joint chairs of the corporate practice.
