Johnine P. Barnes is chair of Greenberg Traurig LLP’s Labor & Employment Practice's Statutory Compliance and Contracts and Regulatory Practice Group. She is based in the Washington, DC office. Ms. Barnes has extensive experience in litigating and defending administrative claims of harassment; retaliation and discrimination on the basis of age, race, sex and disability; wrongful discharge and breach of contract issues; and client compliance with the American with Disabilities Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, and other federal and state statutes governing employment. Ms. Barnes has counseled and represented companies, government agencies, and associations on labor law issues, including the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as analogous state statutes, collective bargaining, grievance arbitration, and National Labor Relations Board proceedings. Additionally, Ms. Barnes represents clients in federal and international contracting compliance and employment matters, including OFCCP audits and compliance, drafting and compliance under Affirmative Action Plans and Service Contract disputes. In addition to her labor and employment practice, Ms. Barnes has extensive business litigation experience in non-compete agreements, contract disputes, trade secrets, international disputes, white collar crimes, property interest disputes, and legislative matters.

Greenberg Traurig LLP routinely advises on internal investigations, Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) audits, compliance and force reductions, performance management, discipline, and wage and hour issues. Hillsborough County Civil Service Board, Bellwether Behavioral Health and KeyBank are clients. Johnine Barnes in Washington DC advised Profit Investment Management on corporate restructuring in addition to compliance issues and diversification. Houston-based Shira Yoshor, who ‘offers well-informed advice’, Wendy Lario in New Jersey and John Richards in Atlanta are key figures in the team, which also includes Philadelphia-based Kelly Bunting, who co-chairs the workforce compliance and regulatory enforcement group with Tiffany Fordyce and Jon Zimring in Chicago. David Long-Daniels in Atlanta, Jonathan Sulds in New York and James Boudreau in Philadelphia head the labor and employment department. Michael Taylor, who chairs the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) group, joined the Northern Virginia office from Baker & Hostetler LLP in 2017.
