The firm
Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, founded in 1830, is one of the first US law firms to develop a truly international practice. Dedicated to counselling clients involved with some of the most challenging transnational transactions and complex multijurisdictional disputes, Curtis represents multinational companies, international financial institutions, governments and state-owned entities, family and other privately held businesses, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals. With offices in the United States, Europe, Latin America, central Asia and the Middle East, Curtis is located in the key business centres in which its clients need the firm most.
Areas of practice
Established in 2007, Curtis’ Istanbul office is situated on the main thoroughfare of Istanbul’s midtown business district. Curtis was the second international law firm with headquarters in New York to open in Istanbul. Since then, it has grown steadily, both in terms of size and in the scope of the twin pillars of its practice, corporate M&A and international dispute resolution.
Curtis provides legal counsel to clients operating in the Middle East, South East Europe and central Asia. To ensure a consistently high level of service and the full benefit of the firm expertise and global reach, Curtis utilises an integrated team approach across offices and practices. Its attorneys co-ordinate closely with their colleagues in Almaty, Ashgabat, Astana, Dubai, Kuwait City and Muscat in particular, advising multinational corporations and financial institutions, sovereign entities and private companies.
The office has a well-balanced and growing corporate M&A practice, which advises both Turkish and international clients on Turkish law. The office also provides Turkish clients with international advice from the firm’s other offices, from general corporate or commercial advice to specific areas of practice such as intellectual property. Curtis’ Istanbul office advises on the full range of corporate and regulatory issues involved in large-scale infrastructure development projects, including administrative law and public service contracts, some of which are strategically significant for the administrative authorities involved. The lawyers in Curtis’ Istanbul office advise on a range of mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, corporate restructurings and commercial contracts, including real estate aspects as well as complex, cross-border transactions.
The office’s international dispute resolution practice is uniquely strong in the Turkish market, with complex multiparty, multijurisdictional disputes, mid-sized commercial arbitrations and mediations on the roster. As well as a Turkish arbitration at the ICC, the effective and highly regarded team is handling a number of huge international arbitrations (under both ICSID and UNCITRAL rules) emanating from Turkmenistan and central Asia.
The office’s broad base of sector expertise covers energy, oil and gas; infrastructure; pharmaceuticals; technology; manufacturing; transportation; hospitality; and financial services. The Istanbul office is a part of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, a New York limited liability partnership.
