The firm

Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, founded in 1830, is one of the first US law firms to develop a truly international practice. Dedicated to counselling clients involved with some of the most challenging transnational transactions and complex multijurisdictional disputes, Curtis represents multinational companies, international financial institutions, governments and state-owned entities, family and other privately held businesses, entrepreneurs and high-net-worth individuals. With offices in the United States, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and central Asia, Curtis is located in the key business centres in which its clients need the firm most.

Areas of practice

The Curtis Milan office is located at the centre of the city’s business district. Originally established as an Italian law firm, it became part of Curtis in 2008, following a longstanding and close association between the two firms. Curtis Milan comprises Italian, UK and US-qualified attorneys, a number of whom are law school professors. The office works closely with the firm’s 15 other offices across Europe, the Americas, central Asia and the Middle East.

Members of the Milan office advise Italian and international companies and financial institutions on the full range of corporate and finance matters. This includes establishing subsidiaries in Italy and complying with Italian corporate regulations, as well as advising on issues relating to mergers and acquisitions, labour and employment, real estate, competition, intellectual property, tax and administrative law.

The office has an impressive track record in energy law matters, particularly within the oil and gas and renewable energy sectors. The office advises clients on cross-border energy transactions before the Italian and EU energy regulatory authorities and assists them in the structuring and negotiation of contracts for the transportation and distribution of natural gas. The office also has deep experience in the negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts in the real estate, distribution and corporate restructuring sectors, among others.

The Milan office’s litigation and arbitration practice is highly developed. In August 2012 the office welcomed Professor Tullio Treves, former judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea. Professor Treves brings a depth of experience in public international law and will work closely with the firm’s arbitration group.

The team represent clients before EU and national courts and institutions as well as national and international arbitral bodies. The Milan office’s attorneys have represented clients in some of the most significant international arbitrations worldwide, handling disputes under the rules of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL).

The office is a part of Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle LLP, an English-registered limited liability partnership.
