Robert Lindley, Counsel, is Head of the Private Client and Trust practice in both the Cayman Islands and the British Virgin Islands offices of Conyers Dill & Pearman. Robert’s practice covers all aspects of Cayman Islands and British Virgin Islands trust law advice and trust litigation. He regularly advises trustees, beneficiaries, protectors and other office holders on a variety of contentious and non-contentious trust and private client related matters. He has a broad range of experience in estate planning and administration of estate issues for high net worth individuals and families. Robert also advises on the establishment of private trust companies and trust structures in both jurisdictions.

Conyers Dill & Pearman's private client team advises on family trust structures and ongoing administration matters, as well as on significant contentious trusts disputes. Typical work includes inheritance structuring, private investment structures, inter-generational asset transfers and regulatory laws affecting cross-border transactions. The team acted for Lombard Odier Trust (Bermuda), as trustee of a large structure of BVI family trusts, on the complex restructuring and decanting of trust assets, which involved BVI corporate issues and novel classes of trust assets. Associate Matthew Brown regularly advises trustees, beneficiaries, protectors and other office holders on contentious trust and private client-related matters. In the Cayman Islands, counsel Robert Lindley heads up the Cayman and BVI private client and trust group.

Headed by Paul Smith, Conyers Dill & Pearman's litigation and restructuring team is highly rated for domestic and cross-border insolvency and restructuring proceedings, complex contract and commercial disputes, multi-party contentious trusts and estates matters, and a broad range of local litigation. It acted for the Torchlight Fund and its general partner in defending a just and equitable winding-up petition brought against it by a number of its investors. Representative matters include inheritance structuring, private investment structures, inter-generational asset transfers, and regulatory laws; the practice also has a robust contentious trusts specialty. The team recently assisted with the establishment of a new pension fund for employees in Cayman, including assisting with the regulatory approvals and set-up of the pension plan.
