Nicholas Usher is a partner in the corporate and finance department. He concentrates is practice on cross-border transactions, mergers and acquisitions (both public and private), lending and finance, securities, and private equity transactions. Nicholas is recognised as a leading mergers and acquisitions lawyer in the UK and has represented many clients on a variety of mergers and acquisition and securities transactions. In addition, he represents private equity and venture capital funds with respect to portfolio investments and buyout funds.


Nicholas received a B.A. from King’s College, the University of London, England, in 1994. He received a Diploma in Law in 1995 from the College of Law, London where he completed the Legal Practice Course in 1996. He qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England & Wales in 1999.

With excellent cross-border capabilities, the team at Winston & Strawn London LLP regularly handles corporate work, regulatory matters and litigation in numerous sports. Michael Stepek acted for Bulgarian football club CSKA Sofia in an appeal against UEFA before the CAS, regarding the team's eligibility to play in the 2017-'18 and 2018-'19 Europa League tournaments despite its insolvency in 2016. On the transactional side, Nicholas Usher advised one of the main shareholders in Swansea City FC on the club's sale to a group of US private equity investors. Department head Peter Crowther, who splits his time between London and Brussels, continued to advise the British Athletes Commission (BAC) on issues affecting elite athletes, such as duty of care, selection matters, anti-doping, and communications with governing bodies. Competition expert Jade-Alexandra Fearns is an associate recommended for regulatory and disciplinary matters.
