T. Eiko Stange is a member of the Tax Department at Wachtell, Lipton Rosen & Katz. He focuses on the tax aspects of U.S. and cross-border mergers and acquisitions, spin-offs and other dispositions, leveraged buy-outs, joint ventures and financing transactions. Mr. Stange has been the principal tax lawyer on numerous major domestic and cross-border transactions in a diverse spectrum of industries, including telecommunications, technology, pharmaceuticals, banking and financial services, media and entertainment, real estate and retail.


Mr. Stange joined Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz in 2000 and became a partner in 2006.


Mr. Stange is a member of the Tax Sections of the American Bar Association and the New York State Bar Association. He is a native of Germany.


Mr. Stange received a J.D. equivalent from the Universität Hamburg, Germany in 1993, an LL.M. in corporation law from New York University School of Law in 1995 and an LL.M. in taxation from New York University School of Law in 1998.

New York-based Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz works with large international businesses on the tax aspects of corporate reorganizations, acquisitions, dispositions, financings, restructurings and joint ventures. Jodi Schwartz assisted Ireland-based Medtronic with its $6.1bn sale of a portion of its patient monitoring and recovery division to Cardinal Health, while Eiko Stange handled Tesla Motors’ acquisition of German machine industry company Grohmann Engineering. Joshua Holmes is another name to note, as is Tijana Dvornic, who assisted Canada-based multinational Valeant Pharmaceuticals with the $1.3bn sale of its CeraVe, Ambi and AcneFree brands and related assets to L'Oréal USA.

New York-based Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz’s team comprises 11 lawyers and handles both corporate and real estate transactions, as well as reorganizations and financial matters. Practice lead Jodi Schwartz provided advice to CenturyLink during its acquisition of Level 3 Communications for $34bn, and also represented CBS in the Reverse Morris Trust sale of CBS Radio to Entercom Communications. Deborah Paul assisted Apollo Global Management’s affiliated funds with the $5.1bn purchase of West Corporation. Eiko Stange, who acted for United Technologies during the $30.3 acquisition of Rockwell Collins, is another name to note.

    A. INTRODUCTION   The VAT E-commerce Package adopted by the Council on the 5th of December 2017 includes several changes that will be gradually implemented, some changes will be effective as from the 1st of January 2019 and the rest as from the 1st of January 2021.
  • Doing business in Ukraine: turning point for the currency control in Ukraine

    One of the most hotly discussed topics in 2019 is currency control liberalization in Ukraine.The currency control liberalization was one of Ukraine’s priorities under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. At the beginning of 2019 the National Bank of Ukraine (hereinafter the “NBU”) approved and promulgated all long-awaited regulations, serving as the basis for a new liberal system of foreign currency control. The new currency control system will be launched on 7 February 2019, the same day as the Law of Ukraine  On Currency and Exchange Transactions  becomes applicable. The changes are aimed at deregulation, facilitating cross-border transactions with foreign currency and expanding the list of available foreign currency transactions.
  • New Long Term Residency Visas

    After much media coverage, Cabinet Decision 56 of 2018 (the Decision ) has been gazetted which introduces new long term residency visas to, amongst others, four categories of persons in the UAE. 
  • Significant Changes to Civil Procedure Code

    Significant changes to Federal Law No 11 of 1992 (the Civil Procedure Code ) will soon be coming into effect. These changes are introduced through regulations (the Regulations ) issued under the Civil Procedure Code and will come into effect on 16 February 2019.
  • Merger Clearance Matters

    The United Arab Emirates (the UAE ) promulgated legislation to specifically address the regulation of competition (being Federal Law 4 of 2012, or the Competition Law ) several years ago but until recently, it has been the case that the requisite implementing regulations and processes were not in place. This is no longer the case. Not only have the much anticipated implementing regulations been issued, the UAE Ministry of Economy (the Ministry ) (being the regulator in charge of administering the UAE competition regime) has now formed the required committee and issued the anticipated guidance and forms to allow concerned parties to make merger clearance submissions to the Ministry where required to do so pursuant to the Competition Law.
